My name is Molly Carlson and I teach students science at Mauston High School. This is my ninth year at MHS and my fourteenth year teaching. I believe that a basic understanding of science is critical to being an informed, engaged global citizen. My goal is to help students develop their critical thinking skills and build a solid background in core science concepts. I work hard to create lessons that are interactive and engaging for students. I also strive to pique students' curiosity in science and encourage them to become lifelong learners. The future health of our planet is contingent upon the positive actions of a compassionate, well-educated, and scientifically literate populace.
A little bit about me: I am originally from a very small, rural town in Wisconsin and I earned my undergraduate degree in Biology and Environmental Studies from UW-Madison. My first job was at a non-profit energy conservation corporation in Madison and after several years of grueling office work, I joined the US Peace Corps in 2007. I was sent to a small village in the mountains of Ecuador where I worked as a sustainable agriculture and small business development volunteer. I discovered my love of teaching during my two years of service in Ecuador and decided to return to UW-Madison for my science teaching certification in 2009. During the summer of 2023 I finished my Master’s Degree in Applied Biotechnology from UW-Madison.
In my free time, I enjoy running, reading, and traveling around the world. I also advise several co-curricular activities: I am the Key Club advisor and Science Club advisor. I am overjoyed to be part of the incredible Mauston staff and look forward to sharing my nerdy love of science and service with students!
