This is my 28th year as an English teacher at Mauston High School. I also spent a semester at Wilmot High School in 1997. The primary classes that I teach are English 9 Academy, English 11, Shakespeare, Rhetoric of Film, Brit Lit, World Lit, and Creative Writing. Some of the activities that I'm involved with here at school are the South Central Conference Writer's magazine (Musings) and I am an assistant coach for football.
As an educator, my passions are literacy and studying the plays of William Shakespeare. I serve as a Teaching Artist for the Folger Shakespeare Library National Teacher Corps in Washington DC, and have spoken at national conferences in Chicago, Las Vegas, Boston, and Washington DC. In 2015, I spent a week at Columbia University in New York City learning how to help my students become stronger readers as well as instilling a joy for reading.
Athletics have always been a big part of my life. I served as the head varsity baseball coach here at Mauston High School from 2001-2017, and coached baseball for 25 years total. While living in Norway in 1996, I coached the Norwegian national champion baseball team and also served as the junior national team coach for four months. I also coached football for 13 years, then served as the video coordinator for 13 years, and now I’m back coaching the special teams for the past two years.
My family and I live here in Mauston. I have two daughters and one son and they all have attended school in Mauston. We have a pug/dachshund/beagle mix named Piper and shih tzu/rat terrier mix named Winnie. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, reading, music, watching movies, and sports. My favorite authors are James Patterson, John Sandford, John Grisham, Stephen King, William Kent Krueger, Jo Nesbø, Brad Thor, and C.J. Box. My favorite film director is Alfred Hitchcock and I have seen many of his films numerous times. I also am an avid fantasy football junkie and am a proud owner of the Green Bay Packers.
