My name is Julie Quist, I am excited to be working with Freshmen and Juniors at MHS, iLEAD Charter School, and Lemonweir Academy this year. For 28 years, I have been working as a high school counselor. It has been a wonderful journey! Over the years, I have had the privilege to work with amazing students and families and a variety of community partners and agencies.

A proud fact is that I was a “first-generation college student.” Having had no other siblings or parents attend college was very challenging at times. My desire to make a difference as a future school counselor outweighed my fear of failure. With support and encouragement from a variety of individuals, I was able to reach the goal of becoming a licensed school counselor. My unique journey continues to feed my passion for helping all students pursue pathways such as joining the military, starting a business, pursuing an apprenticeship, attending technical college or university, or perhaps exploring service work, such as the Peace Corps. We want to meet students where they are at and help them move themselves forward on a career pathway as part of the high school journey.

My family, faith, hobbies, and interests keep me anchored and joyful!  I find a peacefulness when cooking and love to collect old cookbooks.  It is truly relaxing to use my great-grandmother’s cookbook when experimenting with recipes. We also enjoy spending time at our family farm throughout the year. Both the gift of time with loved ones and my faith are the strongest anchors, whether celebrating the “good times” or embracing the “tough times” in life.
