Dear Families,
This week, the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) released the school and district report cards for Mauston and all schools that are publicly funded. These report cards are one source of information we use to reflect on our strengths and plan for areas for improvement.
The state report card is based on student performance during the 2022-23 school year, but scores are calculated using data from several years. Test scores, demographic information, attendance, absenteeism, and graduation rates are all part of a complex scoring system. DPI cautions viewers that multiple years of data impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic are used throughout the report card. Detailed information about the make-up and scoring systems are found in the links at the bottom of this page.
Mauston High School, iLEAD Charter School, Olson Middle School, Grayside Elementary School, Mauston Montessori School and the School District of Mauston receive report cards that are scored in each of the four priority areas of:
- Achievement
- Growth
- Target Group Outcomes
- On-Track to Graduation
These scores are combined to make up a total score for each entity which is then given a rating. West Side Elementary School, Lyndon Station Elementary School, and Lemonweir Academy each receive an Alternate Accountability Report Card because they have too few or no students in tested grades 3-11. Each of the Mauston schools received an Alternate Accountability Rating of Satisfactory.
Here are some highlights we’d like to share from our District and school report cards:
The District Report Card shows a rating of Meets Expectations. Mathematics outcomes are on par with the state average in both the Achievement and Growth categories, while English Language Arts is below the state average. The District has a higher graduation rate than the state average.
- Mauston High School, which Meets Expectations, has strong levels of achievement and growth in mathematics, had lower levels of absenteeism and graduated more students than comparison schools in the state. Dual Enrollment and Work-Based Learning, which are based on 2021-22 information, continue to outpace the state. 232 students successfully completed at least one dual enrollment course, 22 students earned industry recognized credentials and 76 students participated in work-based learning programs. MHS also graduated 98.5% of students, which is higher than the state.
- iLEAD Charter School improved this year to a school that Meets Expectations. Graduation rates are also higher than the state at 94.6. You may notice that there is not a Target Group as part of iLEAD’s report card. That is because the school didn’t have a large enough population of students to create this group.
- Olson Middle School had a rating of Meets Expectations. Achievement and growth are above the state average in mathematics once again this year. 8th Grade mathematics, which is weighted twice on the report card continues to be much higher than the state.
- Grayside Elementary School received a rating of Meets Few Expectations with student growth making up a significant portion of the school’s overall score. This year the students at Grayside didn’t show the amount of growth that they have in the past resulting in a lower score.
