The Fountas and Pinnell Reading Assessment is an individual assessment used to measure fluency and comprehension. Teachers use this assessment to determine a student's instructional and independent reading level. Teachers are able to observe and record student reading behaviors, engage students in comprehension conversations, and make informed decisions that connect assessment to teaching. Teachers receive scores immediately and share them with families at conference time. Students in grades 1 - 5 will take the Fountas and Pinnell (F&P) assessment in September, January, and May. Students in Kindergarten will take the assessment in January and May.
For information about F&P text levels, go to Text Level Ladder of Progress.
For specifics about the assessment, please talk with your child's teacher.
