School District of Mauston 2018-19 Report Card Communication
November 12, 2019
Dear Families,
We’ve had a great start to the school year in the School District of Mauston! This year, we are excited about working with families and the community as we engage in efforts to develop a new Strategic Plan that takes the District through 2025. One source we use to reflect on our strengths and areas for improvement is the State District and School Report Card.
The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) released the annual School and District Report Cards this week. Each year we strive to improve on this measure; however, we know that this report leaves out important indicators of success. This year, the School District of Mauston is releasing a Local District Report Card as a supplement to the State Report Cards to capture some of those indicators.
The current State Report Card is primarily based on last year’s performance, the 2018-19 school year. Mauston data from the Report Cards are used along with information from multiple sources, to target our improvement efforts so that students are college and career ready.
Here are some highlights we’d like to share from our District and school report cards:
Report card scores continue to improve each year. We are excited to see that Mauston High School, Olson Middle School, and Grayside Elementary School, each showed an increase in the Overall Score on the Report Card over last year's scores. Lyndon Station saw a slight decrease in the score and the School District of Mauston score remained steady. The iLEAD Charter School received a report card for the first time in 2018-19 due to the increase in students as well as the change in tested grades on the report cards.
- Mauston High School has higher School Growth, Closing Gaps, and On-Track and Postsecondary Readiness scores than the state. The Student Achievement score also continues to improve growing from 45.2 in 2017-18 to 54.8 in 2018-19 resulting in an overall score increase from 58.2 to 71.7.
- iLEAD Charter School received its first regular state report card this year. In past years, iLEAD received an Alternate Rating report card due to low numbers of tested students. The scores in Student Achievement and Growth are below the state, however, iLEAD scored higher than the state in the on-Track and Postsecondary Readiness portions of the report card. iLEAD falls into the category of 6-12 high schools for comparison.
- Olson Middle School outperformed the state again this year in School Growth and Closing Achievement Gaps. Student Achievement also increased resulting in an increased overall score of 81.4 compared to 80 in 2017-18.
- Grayside Elementary School's Closing Gap scores grew from 71.7 in 2017-18 to 91.6 in 2018-19. Grayside also saw an increase in Student Achievement resulting in an overall score of 73.2 compared to 68.5 last year.
- Lyndon Station Elementary saw a slight drop in the overall scores this year, however, they continue to score higher than the state in Student Achievement.
- West Side Elementary School and the Mauston Montessori Charter School receive an Alternate Rating of Satisfactory Progress as they do not have enough students in tested grades to receive a regular report card.
DPI has produced two versions of each Report Card: a quick one-pager labeled “School Report Card” and a lengthier, detailed version labeled, “School Report Card Detail.” Both versions can be accessed online along with resources that explain the report cards.
The individual report cards can be found on the right.
