This is my 25th year as an English teacher at Mauston High School. I also spent a semester at Wilmot High School in 1997. The primary classes that I teach are English 9 Academy, English 11, Shakespeare, Rhetoric of Film, Brit Lit, IMPACT-Hospitality and Tourism, and Creative Writing. Some of the activities that I'm involved with here at school are the South Central Conference Writer's magazine (Musings) and I coach JV baseball.
As an educator, my passions are literacy and studying the plays of William Shakespeare. I serve as a Teaching Artist for the Folger Shakespeare Library National Teacher Corps in Washington DC, and have spoken at national conferences in Chicago, Las Vegas, Boston, and Washington DC. In 2015, I spent a week at Columbia University in New York City learning how to help my students become stronger readers as well as instilling a joy for reading.
Athletics have always been a big part of my life. I served as the head varsity baseball coach here at Mauston High School from 2001-2017. I also coached five years of junior varsity baseball. While living in Norway in 1996, I coached the Norwegian national champion baseball team and also served as the junior national team coach for four months. I also coached football for 13 years and now serve as the video coordinator for the MHS football team. Currently, I coach the JV baseball team.
My family and I live here in Mauston. I have two daughters and one son and they all attend school in Mauston. We have a Black Lab named Bergen, a pug/dachshund/beagle mix named Piper, and an aquarium full of fish. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, reading, music, watching movies, and sports. My favorite authors are James Patterson, John Sandford, John Grisham, Stephen King, Jo Nesbø, Brad Thor, and C.J. Box. My favorite film director is Alfred Hitchcock and I have seen many of his films numerous times. I also am an avid fantasy football junkie and am a proud owner of the Green Bay Packers.
