Dear Mauston and Lyndon Station Communities:
I am excited to be starting my fourth year as the Superintendent for the School District of Mauston. There are no words to describe how much I appreciate the opportunity to lead our amazing district. There is no place I would rather be than in Mauston, serving our communities and families. Throughout my tenure, there have been many challenges, but I have been very fortunate to have the strength of the administration team and staff behind me.
The fiscal responsibility of running our amazing District, including operations, high-quality instructional programming, managing facilities, attention to school safety, and the need to remain competitive with teacher and support staff salaries, is an ongoing challenge when state funding for schools has been difficult to predict. Consistent and predictable fiscal certainty remains a challenge for the Mauston Schools and other public schools across the state. We want to continue to compete with other high-quality districts because our students, families, and staff deserve the very best schools.
The School District of Mauston will continue to work with its staff and community to respond to our learner’s academic, social-emotional, and college and career-ready needs. The 2022-2023 school year begins with the compassion and care for our students and the support of parents and resourceful citizens. We greatly appreciate our taxpayers’ passage of the referendum and look forward to upcoming opportunities for our stakeholders to tour the completed construction projects. It is an honor and privilege to serve as your Superintendent and partner in education. We are incredibly excited to make this the most productive school year ever. I would like to personally thank you for your commitment to our students and staff. Your feedback and support help our District with the very best interests of students and families in mind.
With great appreciation,
Joel Heesch
