It offers excellent facilities, large outdoor space, and a friendly highly qualified staff. In addition, Grayside also houses our District Offices.
Quality Educational Experience
Grayside Elementary utilizes a language arts program by the title of "Literacy by Design". It is a complete reading and writing program with proven positive results. Literacy by Design also integrates science and social studies state standards into the reading and writing program. We have a lexile coded book room that may be accessed by teachers for reading intervention strategies. Accelerated Reader is an individualized computer program that may also be used to differentiate reading instruction.
Everyday Math is our mathematics program. It is a data proven system for teaching math. Teachers may supplement and differentiate the Everyday Math with other appropriate material.
Ninety-minute math and literacy blocks were built into our daily schedule to establish a solid foundation in these core areas.
Music, Computers, Art, Physical Education, Library (MCAPEL)
Grayside has music, computer classes, art, physical education and library media classes for all grades.
Responsive Classroom
The Mauston elementary schools have adapted the Responsive Classroom (RC) approach to teaching and learning. Responsive classroom fosters safe, challenging, and joyful classrooms and schools, kindergarten through eighth grade. Developed by classroom teachers, it consists of practical strategies for bringing together social and academic learning throughout the school day.
21st Century Technology
As digital natives, students are provided with opportunities both in and outside the classroom. Classrooms are equipped with smart boards and computer stations to enhance their learning in a variety of ways. In addition, our elementary school offers 2 full computer labs that allow students to increase their computer skills and research abilities.
Safety
We take student safety seriously. Staff and visitors wear identification at all times, and we dismiss our walking students after our buses leave the campus. This insures a safe flow of traffic, both pedestrian and vehicular.
SAGE
Grayside Elementary enjoys small class sizes. Our third grade class is part of the Wisconsin Student Achievement Guarantee in Education program (SAGE) which helps us provide smaller class sizes and insures that our curriculum promotes academic achievement.
Title I
Our school has qualified Title I teachers that work with our students to increase their learning in Math and Reading through a School Wide Approach. Title I teachers work with the classroom teachers to provide whole group instruction as well as individual instruction.
Parents and Teachers for Children
This is an organization that brings teachers and parents together to help the children in our school in a variety of ways. They lend themselves to strengthening academics by holding fundraisers to purchase educational materials that benefit the students. They also provide social opportunities to enhance the overall educational experience.
