The School District of Mauston is committed to continuous improvement and student achievement. There are a variety of programs in place and on the horizon to support this vision.
Over the past few years the School District of Mauston has undertaken initiatives that directly impact teaching and learning. All teachers in grades K-5 have implemented a research-based, comprehensive Reading and Language Arts program linked to science and social studies content called “Literacy by Design.” The program offers complete instruction connected across whole class, small group, and independent reading. All elementary teachers of grades PK-5 are trained in the Responsive Classroom approach to create learning environments where children thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. During the 2011-2012 school year, Elementary teachers will begin implementing FOSS Science Kits, a hands-on, inquiry-based approach to science instruction.
Middle school curricular changes include a new comprehensive, novel-based, interactive Reading and Language Arts series called "Reader's Journey" that is grounded in best practices of adolescent literacy instruction. Mathematics instructional resources include access to online support for students, parents, and teachers. This same mathematics vendor follows through to high school for consistent practices and seamless transition.
Throughout the District, there is a strong commitment to meeting the needs of all learners through defining clear student learning targets, studying student data, and providing responsive instruction to meet individual needs.
Eclipse, curriculum management software is used for documenting district curriculum. The software aids in identifying gaps and overlaps in curriculum content and frequency of coverage of state standards and benchmarks.
